Last updated June 17, 2022
Protecting your privacy is really important to us at UCIPT. Accordingly, we’re providing this Privacy Policy to explain our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information that we process, including information we receive through our MobilityApp and other online or offline offerings. This Privacy Policy doesn’t apply to any third-party websites, services, or applications, even if they are accessible through our MobilityApp. Also, please note that, unless we define a term in this Privacy Policy, all capitalized words used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms of Service. This Privacy Policy is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service. So, please make sure that you have read and understood our Terms of Service.
All individuals whose responsibilities include the processing of any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (“Personal Information”) on behalf of UCIPT are expected to protect that data by adherence to this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy is intended to meet requirements globally, including those in North America, Europe, APAC, and other jurisdictions.
Identifiers and Location Data Collection and Use
For a better experience, while using our Service, we may require you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information, including email, and location data. The information that we request will be retained on our secure server, de-identified, and analyzed anonymously.
Information You Provide Directly to Us
When you use the UCIPTMobility and engage in certain activities, such as registering for an Account, or contacting us directly, we may ask you to provide some or all of the following types of information:
Automatic Identifiers and Location Data Collection
• We may collect certain information automatically through our Mobility, such as your Internet protocol (IP) address, mobile carrier, and other device identifiers that are automatically assigned to your device when you access the Internet, language, geolocation information, hardware type, operating system, Internet service provider, the date and time of your visit, and pages you view within the MobilityApp, and other actions taken through use of the UCIPT Mobility such as preferences.
• UCIPT Mobility collects location data to enable study mobility trajectories and public health patterns even when the app is closed or not in use.
• UCIPT Mobility also collects Advertising ID in order to use it as a universal identifier for subjects in our studies.
Rights of Access, Rectification, Erasure, and Restriction
You may inquire as to whether UCIPT is Processing Personal Information about you, request access to Personal Information and ask that we correct, amend or delete your Personal Information where it is inaccurate. Where otherwise permitted by applicable law, you may contact us at or use any of the methods set out in this Privacy Policy to request access to, receive (port), seek rectification, or request erasure of Personal Information held about you by us. Please include your full name, the email address associated with your Account, and a detailed description of your data request. Such requests will be processed in line with local laws.
Although UCIPT makes good faith efforts to provide Individuals with access to their Personal Information, there may be circumstances in which we are unable to provide access, including but not limited to: where the information contains legal privilege that would compromise others’ privacy or other legitimate rights, where the burden or expense of providing access would be disproportionate to the risks to the Individual’s privacy in the case in question or where it is commercially proprietary. If we determine that access should be restricted in any particular instance, we will provide you with an explanation of why that determination has been made and a contact point for any further inquiries. To protect your privacy, we will take commercially reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access to or making any changes to your Personal Information.
Mobile Devices
We will ask to send you push notifications through our mobile application with updates, and notices to participating in activities. You may at any time opt out from receiving these types of communications by changing the settings on your mobile device.
Security
We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, thus we are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. Please be aware, however, that no method of transmitting information over the Internet or storing information is completely secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of any information. We do not accept liability for unintentional disclosure.
By using the App or providing Personal Information to us, you agree that we may communicate with you electronically regarding security, privacy, and administrative issues relating to your use of the App. If we learn of a security system breach, we may attempt to notify you electronically by posting a notice on the App or sending an e-mail to you. You may have a legal right to receive this notice in writing.
Social Media Platforms
You should be aware that Personal Information which you voluntarily include and transmit online in a publicly accessible blog, chat room, social media platform or otherwise online, or that you share in an open forum, may be viewed and used by others without any restrictions. Information Disclosed for Our Protection and the Protection of Others
We cooperate with government and law enforcement officials and/or private parties to enforce and comply with the law. We may access, preserve, and disclose any information about you to the government or law enforcement officials or private parties as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate: (i) to respond to claims or legal process and comply with law enforcement or national security requests (including subpoenas, warrants or court orders); (ii) to protect your, our, or other’s property, rights and safety and the rights, property, and safety of a third party or the public in general; (iii) to prevent or stop any activity we consider illegal, unethical or legally actionable activity; (iv) to respond to your requests; (v) to collect amounts owed to us; (vi) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent physical harm or financial loss or in connection with an investigation or prosecution of suspected or actual illegal activity; or (vii) if we, in good faith, believe that disclosure is otherwise necessary or advisable.
In addition, from time to time, server logs may be reviewed for security purposes – e.g., to detect unauthorized activity on the MobilityApp. In such cases, server log data containing IP addresses may be shared with law enforcement bodies in order that they may identify users in connection with their investigation of unauthorized activities.

Terms & Conditions
By downloading or using the app, these terms will automatically apply to you – you should make sure therefore that you read them carefully before using the app. You’re not allowed to copy, or modify the app, any part of the app, or our trademarks in any way. You’re not allowed to attempt to extract the source code of the app, and you also shouldn’t try to translate the app into other languages or make derivative versions. The app itself, and all the trademarks, copyright, database rights, and other intellectual property rights related to it, still belong to UCIPT.
UCIPT is committed to ensuring that the app is as useful and efficient as possible. For that reason, we reserve the right to make changes to the app or to charge for its services, at any time and for any reason. We will never charge you for the app or its services without making it very clear to you exactly what you’re paying for.
The MobilityApp stores and processes personal data that you have provided to us. It’s your responsibility to keep your phone and access to the app secure. We, therefore, recommend that you do not jailbreak or root your phone, which is the process of removing software restrictions and limitations imposed by the official operating system of your device. It could make your phone vulnerable to malware/viruses/malicious programs, compromise your phone’s security features and it could mean that the MobilityApp won’t work properly or at all.
You should be aware that there are certain things that will not take responsibility for. Certain functions of the app will require the app to have an active internet connection. The connection can be Wi-Fi, or provided by your mobile network provider, but cannot take responsibility for the app not working at full functionality if you don’t have access to Wi-Fi, and you don’t have any of your data allowance left.
If you’re using the app outside of an area with Wi-Fi, you should remember that your terms of the agreement with your mobile network provider will still apply. As a result, you may be charged by your mobile provider for the cost of data for the duration of the connection while accessing the app. In using the app, you’re accepting responsibility for any such charges, including roaming data charges if you use the app outside of your home territory (i.e. region or country) without turning off data roaming. If you are not the bill payer for the device on which you’re using the app, please be aware that we assume that you have received permission from the bill payer for using the app.
Along the same lines, UCIPT cannot always take responsibility for the way you use the app i.e. You need to make sure that your device stays charged – if it runs out of battery and you can’t turn it on to avail of the MobilityApp, we cannot accept responsibility.
With respect to the user’s responsibility for your use of the app, when you’re using the app, it’s important to bear in mind that although we endeavor to ensure that it is updated and correct at all times, but we accept no liability for any loss, direct or indirect, you experience as a result of relying on this app.
At some point, we may wish to update the app. The app is currently available on Android & iOS – the requirements for both systems (and for any additional systems we decide to extend the availability of the app to) may change, and you’ll need to download the updates if you want to keep using the app. UCIPT does not promise that it will always update the app so that it is relevant to you and/or works with the Android & iOS versions that you have installed on your device. However, unless you promise to always accept updates to the application when offered to you, we may also wish to stop providing the app and may terminate your use of it at any time without giving notice of termination to you. Unless we tell you otherwise, upon any termination, (a) the rights and licenses granted to you in these terms will end; (b) you must stop using the app, and (if needed) delete it from your device.
Changes to Terms and Conditions
We may update our Terms and Conditions from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Terms and Conditions on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page.
